Author Studies are a great way for students to explore different writing styles, story elements, illustrations, and more. With author studies, students are able to build critical thinking skills where they can learn to compare and contrast themes, analyze a variety of texts and illustrations, as well as make connections between an author's life and his/her work and the reader's own life and work.

 

This Author-Study-of-the-Month-Year-Long-Plan includes 10 author study plans for the months of the school year (September to June). There is a page included that provides an overview of the year-long plan as well as a page for author study tips of how to use the author study package. Each monthly plan includes:

  • Name and picture of the author
  • A link to the author's website
  • A book list of the most popular books from the author
  • A list of activity ideas to pair with a variety of books from the author
  • A printable craftivity to complete at the end of each month

 

During the month of February, plans, resources, and rubrics are included for a celebration of reading month as well as a focus on Black History Month books.
